How does a body set itself in motion where the relation between the body and what surrounds it appears as a fundamentally precarious, vulnerable relation? In “Precarious Moves” Michael Turinsky continues his investigation of resistant choreographic positionings through designing political aesthetics. At the centre of the solo, which is as much biographical as conceptual, lies the questioning of both his very own personal as well as urgent collective needs and necessities regarding to mobility and mobilization, pertinent as they are especially within the tension between movement and environment, between gesture and milieu. Oscillating between the organic and the organized, “Precarious Moves” unfolds as an ironic as well as engaged of the strange loop that connects the body with the sensual world through which it moves; as a searching movement in which the deviating gesture discovers its choreographic milieu, and at the same time opens our sensitivity beyond the same.

Michael Turinsky is a choreographer, performer and theorist. His work deals with the specific phenomenology of the body marked as disabled - its being-in-the-world and its relation to temporality and rhythm, affect, gender and sexuality and (in)visibility. As a performer, he has worked with Bert Gstettner ("S*Cargo," "Soliman*Revisited," "Tanz*Hotel All*Inclusive"), Barbara Kraus ("Fuck all that shit"), Legitimate Bodies/Robin Dingemans/Mick Bryson ("The point at which it last made sense"), and Doris Uhlich ("Ravemachine"), among others. His most important choreographic works include "heteronomous male" (2012), "My body, your pleasure" (2014) and his latest works "Second Skin - Turn the beat around" (2016), "Second Skin - Master of Ceremony" (2016), "REVERBERATIONS" (2018). In 2021 he received the NESTROY Award (Best Off-Production) for "Precarious Moves". Turinsky is regularly invited for guest lectures and workshops, most recently by the University of Salzburg, Tanzquartier Wien and the College Art Association New York.
