Come as you are - insights into community dance projects
Dancing empowers - but what triggers this feeling? Is it the pure physical movement or is there more to it when we train together, develop choreographies with diverse bodies and instruct cross-generational dancing? In the Forum Tanzvermittlung, the choreographer presents movement approaches and principles from her dance productions HAMONIM, UND SO KAMEN WIR ZUSAMMEN and RAUSCH. What dance and mediating potentials lie in the transitions from one physical state to the next - in the fleeting and transformative moment of the in-between? In addition, she presents the results of the EU project Empowering Dance, reveals implicit forms of knowledge and enables a reflective approach as well as a practical application of soft skills in one's own dance mediating practice and discusses these with the participants.

Patricia Carolin Mai produces stage pieces as a dancer and choreographer with production locations at Kampnagel and at K3 - Hamburg, at LOFFT - DAS THEATER Leipzig and at Ringlokschuppen Mülheim an der Ruhr. The focus of her choreographic work is the investigation of the body as a central repository of memories. Accordingly, she rarely works with professionally trained dancers*, but with people of all ages interested in dance who are not active in dance or the performing arts and thus bring a different, personal view of the body and movement. In 2016-2019 she developed her trilogy on "bodies in extreme states" with the pieces Ready to Snap (2016), Balagan Body (2018) & Hamonim (2019). In the summer of 2019, she accepted Ninety9 Art Company's invitation to Seoul in Korea to work in Gal-Gal on women's self-empowerment in Korean society. For this work she was awarded the "International Choregraphy Award Goyang 2020". In 2020, she explored the limits of her physical performance in the 12-month solo self-experiment Kontrol, questioning cultural normalizations of body and gender. With Kontrol, Patricia Carolin Mai was celebrated as a newcomer in the professional journal tanz. She was also responsible for the choreographies in Alexander Schubert's multimedia pieces Asterism (2021) and Anima (2022) and staged the group piece Or (2022) for the Company of the Leipzig Dance Theater. She has also been part of the EU project Empowering Dance since 2019, conducting research on soft skills in dance education. For the years 2020-2023, Patricia Carolin Mai has received conceptual funding from the City of Hamburg and continues her work on the topic of "practices of community" with Wahn, Und so kam wir zusammen and Rausch. In June 2023, together with 100 participants and in co-production with Kampnagel and K3, she ventured a look at the history of Tanzwut and completed the trilogy. Since August 2023, she has also taken up her work as Artistic Director of the Youth Dance Company at the Festspielhaus St. Pölten.
