"Vogue Fem" is a dance style that originated in the African-American and Latinx LGBTIQ+ ballroom scene in the 1980s. Inspired by famous images of models in Vogue magazines, the style is characterized by dramatic poses and fluid movements. It incorporates elements of ballet, modern dance and often involves voguers performing in groups or "houses" in competitions called "balls."
The style has played an important role in queer and trans communities, providing a space for self-expression and creativity. Vogue Fem/femme is also closely linked to the broader cultural movement of ballroom, which has been celebrated in popular culture through shows like "Pose" and movies such as “Paris is burning”.
Selenah (Insta: @muva.selenah) from the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies started her journey in the Kiki scene 8 years ago by opening the chapter of the House of Mulan in Paris. Her categories are FF Performance and BQ Runway, as varied as her moods. She travelled and walked in the USA as well as Europe where she won in London, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Her contribution to the Paris Kiki scene was also as a promoter where she has had five successful Kiki balls.
