Ballroom for beginnerswith Georgina Philp aka European Mother Leo Saint Laurent

Sat 09.09.2023 | 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm - Probebühne 3

The workshop invites you to learn more about Ballroom and Voguing. In doing so, it aims to raise awareness about why this culture and the associated free spaces are of great importance in Germany. Ballroom was created especially by and for queer BIPoC bodies. The physical form of expression can therefore not be separated from the activist and social work of the community. Furthermore, the workshop combines the participants' own testing of dance practices with the mediation of the social and political background of Ballroom culture as well as the resulting recognition struggles. In addition, participants will gain a basic understanding of the different dance styles and categories such as Vogue-Fem, New Way, Old Way, Runway or Face.

Georgina Philp aka European Mother Leo Saint Laurent graduated in 2008 from the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg (Netherlands) with a Bachelor of Performing Arts and since then has been working successfully as a freelance performer and choreographer in the European dance and culture industry. Mother Leo Saint Laurent is considered since the first ball 2012 as part of the Berlin Voguing Out Festival as a pioneer of the Ballroom in Germany. In the main category Womens European Runway 2022 she became the first Legend in Germany. The European chapter of House of Saint Laurent launched in 2012, formerly known as House of Melody, as the first German ballroom. Since 2019, the house has transformed and merged with the Iconic House of Saint Laurent (founded in NYC in 1982), which currently represents the European Chapter. This association was created by the Iconic Godfather Vjuan Allure Saint Laurent, who passed away in March 2021.
