What is Locking?
Locking is a dance style that originated at the end of the 1960s/early 1970s in Los Angeles, California, during the funk era. The founder of Locking was Don Campbell, who later popularized Locking with his group, "The Lockers," through the television show "Soul Train." This style of dance is typically performed to funk music. The group "The Lockers" drew inspiration for their movements from cartoons. Locking is a dance style characterized by its dynamism and distinct "stops." It features large, arm-heavy movements executed at a fast tempo.
Bana, from Frankfurt am Main, began dancing approximately 15 years ago and took Allstyle courses at dance-in-ffm. Since 2010/11, she has developed a growing interest in the Locking dance style. To expand her skills in this style, she traveled to various countries to attend workshops and participate in battles. In 2014-15, she moved to Åsa Folkhögskola, a dance school in Sweden, to further her dance education. She is a member of the Allstyle Female Crew Déjà Vu and Mixstyle Crew Fusion Art. In August 2018, she competed in the international event KOD in China, where she won first place. In November 2018, she had the opportunity to share her personal dance biography at a TED event.
