Rhythms that get the hips moving and the asses shaking and trembling: Shake your booty! “hip piece”, the new piece by choreographer duo Verena Billinger and Sebastian Schulz, is dedicated to the body’s core, the socalled centre of desire and lust, the motor of dance. And in doing so, it places itself in the thick of current cultural debates about appropriation and ownership, eroticisation and exoticisation, sexualities and gender, identity politics and universalism. On stage: a group of dancers of varying backgrounds and different dance trainings who have been initiated into the art of swinging their hips by experts in Afro dance, Afro house, so-called oriental dance or belly dance, dancehall, various hip-hop styles (popping, locking, etc.), salsa and twerking. They present their approach to the newly learned movements in ways that are sometimes sober, analytical and vulnerable, sometimes playful and exuberant. In the process, they explore dance as a way of liberating themselves of labels and of becoming more and different than they are at first glance.
Die Choreographen Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz wurden von der Fachzeitschrift „tanz“ im Jahrbuch 2015 als „Hoffnungsträger für den Tanz“ ausgezeichnet und u. a. zur renommierten Tanzplattform Deutschland eingeladen. Zuletzt waren sie am Mousonturm mit ihrer Trilogie „UNLIKELY CREATURES“ zu sehen, in der sie sich schon als Experten für ungewöhnliche szenische Anordnungen, unwahrscheinliche Wesen und die ausführliche Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedensten Körperbildern ausgewiesen haben. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in Deutschland, Bulgarien, Frankreich, Großbritannien, Österreich, Schweden, der Schweiz, der Slowakei, Slowenien und Südkorea gezeigt. Die Performance “Violent Event ˟” ist für Herbst 2019 nach Bangkok, Thailand, eingeladen.

Eine Produktion von Billinger & Schulz. In Koproduktion mit FFT Düsseldorf und Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main. Gefördert durch den Fonds Darstellende Künste aus Mitteln der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien im Rahmen von NEUSTART KULTUR, Kunststiftung NRW, Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst. Unterstützt durch das Z – Zentrum für Proben und Forschung Frankfurt, Frankfurt LAB, Schauspiel Frankfurt. Die Koproduktion findet statt im Rahmen des Bündnisses internationaler Produktionshäuser, gefördert von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung, sowie der Tanzplattform Rhein-Main. Die künstlerische Arbeit von Verena Billinger und Sebastian Schulz wird mehrjährig gefördert durch das Kulturamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main und die Konzeptionsförderung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Die Koproduktion findet statt im Rahmen der Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, einem gemeinsamen Kooperationsprojekt von Hessischem Staatsballett und Künstlerhaus Mousonturm. Die Tanzplattform Rhein-Main wird ermöglicht durch den Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain und ist gefördert vom Kulturamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main, dem Hessischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst und der Stiftungsallianz [Aventis Foundation, BHF BANK Stiftung, Crespo Foundation, Dr. Marschner-Stiftung, Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft Frankfurt am Main].
