House Techniques

This course offers an introduction to House Dance with a clear focus on the development of improvisation techniques. At the core is the exploration of dance freedom through the existing movement language of House Dance. Participants will learn fundamental techniques such as Footwork, Jacking, and Lofting, using these as a foundation for individual improvisation. The course aims to deepen the connection between music and movement, helping to discover a personal form of expression that goes beyond set choreography. Ideal for anyone looking to explore their creativity in dance.

There are a lot of parallels between different dance techniques that people don't always notice : modulation of tone, detailed awareness in movement, precise play with timing and rhythm, and also performance presence. While uses of weight, timing, verticality and performance presence or attitude might differ between techniques. If a dancer is experienced in ballet/contemporary but not in House techniques, what might be a few things that are new for them in this class? The difference is definitely that our dance style must be understood as a "music-based interpretation". Techniques that are more common in music theory serve as the basis for our dance technique. Apart from dance skills, a basic understanding of specific grooves, intonations, directional intentions, and above all cultural context is taught here. This should then lead to a centric and reactive form of dance instead of a horizontal and linear technique.

2.The class is intended for dancers who already have professional experience, but they might be coming from different technical backgrounds. Could you mention some things they should they already be comfortable with?

Good basic requirements would be physical body understanding, the ability to isolate, spatial understanding and, most importantly, tact.

Danny Son stands as a beacon of Frankfurts house dance scene. As a co-founder of the House Roots community, he not only propels the national house dance movement but also garners international recognition as a revered mentor, teacher and active dancer. His presence at illustrious international dance festivals attests that Danny has woven himself into the fabric of international house dance culture. Since embarking on his dance journey in 2008, he has been profoundly influenced by Rabah Mahfoufi of Paris, one of Europe's elite house dancers, whose style is distinguished by its profound structure and sophisticated technique an approach that, according to Danny, deepened the essence of house dance. In 2021 Danny evolved from an artist expressing music through movement to a producer crafting music. With the support of his friend &former mentor, Kosmik Kat, he ventured into the depths of music and production. Since then, Danny has carved out a reputation as a DJ both in Germany and on the international stage, particularly in the house dance community. His debut EP, "We Speak Fluently,"was unveiled in December 2023 through the Parisian label Industrial Light Recordings. In June 2024 it was followed by his independently released "Whispers of Sundown" Danny eagerly anticipates a vibrant future spanning global dance floors, DJ booths, and his studio.
