In this class, we work with the amplification of breathing and gaze as the main tools to create dance and performance. We bring the body in motion, keeping in mind the concept of a body always in excess, monstrous, porous, endless, and open to mutating with the environment, melting beyond the limits of ‘human anatomy’. The dance work consists of manifesting in space the power of raw energy, and the reverberation movement of the inner cores of the body: cellular breathing, fluids, heartbeats, and volume of breath.
Andrés is a choreographer/visual artist & vocalist based in Berlin. Their work in visual, sonic and performance art incorporates multiple forms of media, such as sculptural headpieces, costumes, and video. Andrés offers their class „Practices of Animation of the Matter“ in Tanzquartier Vienna, and was awarded with the Pina Bausch Fellowship 2024. In their choreographic work, they incorporate the use of extreme vocal practices, such as growling, guttural voice, lamentations, screams, and whispers. They create scenes and soundscapes with multiple bodies and voices, inspired by Magic & rituals of Animism. Recently, in 2023, they presented their solo installation BICHO RARO at Sophiensaele Berlin. They create solo works using their multidimensional skills to research the development of the body in a queer
1. Is this an improvisation class or a class where we learn set movements and phrases or both?
The class is improvisation based, working with tools that challenges the level of attention, presence and energy of the dancers.
2. Can we expect to reach a certain level of physical intensity in this class, and will we be moving all the time?
The class is similar as a long durational and intense movement meditation, the dancers charge the space with energy, and the space charge the body of the dancers with energy back. In the intensity or high vibration of the space, there is no longer a separation between body and environment. A sense of huge endless body takes over.
